App Helps Engineers Determine Power Cable Needs

SEYMOUR, CT – (March 8, 2016) – Kerite, a U.S.-based manufacturer of medium- and high-voltage insulated power cable products, has updated its FieldCalc Pro engineering app to include more cable products, an expanded ampacity calculator and improved performance with iOS 9 operating systems. Introduced in April 2015, the FieldCalc Pro app helps utility and consulting/specifying engineers resolve common power cable design calculations.

The updated FieldCalc Pro app features new catalog data on Kerite’s 15kV, 25kV and 35kV EPR insulated underground residential distribution (URD) power cables, as well as 5kV, 15kV, 25kV and 35kV Type MV-105 power cables. Kerite also expanded the app’s existing ampacity calculator to include 5kV to 35kV power cable for various load and installation applications, including underground installations in ducts, direct burial or air. These new cables can be single conductor, triplexed and paralleled.

Offering improved performance with iOS 9 operating systems for the iPhone and iPad, the latest version of FieldCalc Pro can easily be downloaded from the iTunes app store or Google Play to any smartphone, tablet or computer. By employing built-in calculators that allow users to enter parameters and power requirements of the circuit being designed, the app quickly solves common power cable design calculations. All necessary equations are built into the app, so no additional resources are required. FieldCalc Pro allows users to make selection decisions on-site by determining the appropriate cable for the application.

With a long history of innovation, Kerite delivers medium- and high-voltage 5kV to 138kV power cable solutions to utilities across North America. Kerite cable is engineered for long service life and is backed by complete factory and technical support. The FieldCalc Pro app adds an entirely new dimension to Kerite innovation.

“Our FieldCalc Pro has proven itself as a powerful, easy-to-use app that our customers find very useful in their day-today activities…The improvements to the app only increase its effectiveness in the cable specifying process. FieldCalc Pro helps our customers use technology to their advantage and simplifies the specifying process.”
